Dalhousie’s Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, Innovacorp and the Brain Repair Centre are pleased to present Dr. Michael Posner, 2017 Dalhousie University honorary degree recipient and 2009 National Medal of Science winner (USA).

Presentation: “Can we rewire the human brain?”
We all program our brain to carry out tasks via attention networks. Attention networks provide priority for selected sensory or memory information. Can attention also change the underlying connectivity? Studies in mice show that practice can influence axons and change the efficiency of conducting information. In humans controlling attention can also change parameters related to axonal density and myelination. The mechanism of these changes appear to be low frequency stimulation. We are examining stimulation noninvasively from scalp electrodes as a vehicle for rewiring brain connectivity.
