Communications Assistant - Brain Repair Centre  

Temporary (up to 6 months) starting October 2021 

Company/Organization Overview: The Brain Repair Centre (BRC), based at Dalhousie University, Halifax, is a leading neuroscience research institute at Dalhousie University in Canada.

Applications are being accepted for a Communications Assistant to support our communications endeavors, under the supervision of the Program Administrator, BRC. Our aim is to increase the visibility and promote the Institute, it’s clusters, people, research, and program initiatives.  

Job Description 

  • Support the ongoing objectives of the BRC’s communications and social media plan to promote BRC research and activities;

  • Develop communication and promotional materials (e.g. key messages, communication plan, news stories, video scripts, videos, fact sheets, event posters, social media and website postings, etc.); 

  • Liaise and coordinate with BRC communications contractor and partners on timing, development and delivery of the various communication products and initiatives to ensure communication needs and goals are met; 

  • Help maintain the BRC websites and social media platforms to ensure all sites are up to date, have appropriate content, and appear both professional and on-brand; 

  • Write, develop, and distribute promotional materials about the programs, research, researchers, events and activities of BRC;

  • Ensure effective communication strategies and materials are in place during events; 

  • Assist with BRC communications activities as they arise. 

 

 Job Qualifications 

Degree or Advanced Diploma in Public Relations or Communications. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. And:

  • Strong writing skills and good knowledge of basic communications principles 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel) 

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) 

  • Knowledge of Squarespace

  • Knowledge of social media applications, analytics and video editing (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Lumen5, Canva). 

  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills 

  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks 

  • Confident asking questions, seeking instruction, clarifying tasks with supervisor 

  • Previous education in the sciences is an asset.

Level of Supervision: Daily in-person interaction with supervisor.

Salary: $25/hr
