BioPort 2024
BRC members Mady Thompson and Borbola Podor attended BioPort 2024 and had this to say about it:
“It was really interesting hearing specifically about the life sciences industry here in the Maritimes. It was super beneficial to hear about the key strategic interests of industry here, like leveraging our natural resources being by the sea, or understanding more about how our provincial healthcare system in specific works. I think that will be the most important takeaway from the conference for me as I begin to think about my plans after my PhD and how to make myself the most marketable for future employers. I enjoyed networking with professionals in the many different sectors of life science research as well as the fact that there was a wide range of experience levels present, so I could talk to someone who had recently transitioned out of academia all the way up to the owner of a company! It was super valuable for me.”

“The Bioport 2024 conference was a great portal to introduce the Life Science scene in Atlantic Canada for any participant. It brought together a mixture of people that are unique, diverse, yet share a common interest/goal. It was very stimulating to hear from a wide variety of people and paths, including academia, pharmaceutical companies, government, financial sector, startups, physicians, etc. The atmosphere was very condusive to networking. It was particularly inspiring to learn from a panel of startup/industry representatives and their individual road, struggles and successes. This experience opens one's eye to the many possibilities in Life Sciences in our province that are sometimes hard to see as a graduate student, postdoc, or trainee in an academic setting.”
