King Charles III Coronation Medal Investiture
On January 21st, 2025, during a ceremony at Government House, Mayor Mike Savage awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal to a number of Nova Scotians. One of them was Dr Dr. Sultan Darvesh, a long-standing BRC member and Dalhousie professor. The medal is awarded in recognition of significant and long-term service. The recipients represent a diverse cross-section of individuals who have provided exceptional and enduring service to the Crown, Canada, the province, and their communities.
Dr Darvesh is a Professor in the Division of Neurology , Department of Medicine, Department of Medical Neuroscience. He is a behavioural neurologist and trained organic chemist with interest in medicinal chemistry. His research focus is the development of therapeutic and diagnostic agents for Alzheimer’s disease, with butyrylcholinesterase as the target.

This is not Dr Darvesh’s first medal. The other medal that he is wearing is a Platinum Jubilee Medal, awarded to him in 2022. This medal was awarded on behalf of the late Queen Elizabeth II, for “an unwavering dedication to their professions and the well-being of the province”.
