Dr. Cindy Calkin has been recognized for a promising treatment therapy for patients with bipolar disorder. “This is a total game changer,” said psychiatrist and BRC member Dr. Calkin, who is an associate professor in the departments of Medical Neuroscience, and Psychiatry in Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine. She is also the medical director of the mood and metabolism board.

“It’s hopeful for our patients who have been treatment resistant, and it’s sort of a new way of looking at treating a psychiatric illness by treating underlying mechanisms and those mechanisms tend to be related to metabolism, which is also kind of a new thing.”
