Publication News: Frampton Lab

We used bacteria to make a spider silk protein that binds nerve growth factor and can be processed into a scaffold to support neurite growth.

The title of the paper is “Nerve Growth Factor-Binding Engineered Silk Films Promote Neuronal Attachment and Neurite Outgrowth”. It was published in the online journal Advanced Functional Materials and co-authors include Dr Jan Rainey and BRC member Dr John Frampton.

The paper outlines how the silk-based material could one day direct the regrowth of a nerve that has been injured, and potentially restore movement.
