Trainee Profile: Jamil Muradov
Jamil Muradov is a PhD candidate in Dr. Alon Friedman's lab. He is the holder of a Killam Foundation scholarship, and a Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarship. Jamil's research focuses on understanding early neurovascular events that occur following traumatic brain injury and he is aiming to identify pathological brain activity patterns that may underlie long-term brain injury.
Jamil's family originates from a highland region in Azerbaijan, situated on the south-facing slope of the Caucasian mountains, which is why he enjoys hiking, spending time in the nature, farming activities and observing stars in the night sky. Jamil is a semi-professional chess player, a member of the Chess Federation of Canada, working on his Category 1 rating, and an Exec member of the Dalhousie Chess Club.
Jamil spends most of his time conducting his research, which resulted in him being recently awarded the top PhD prize for the researcher poster by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the PhD conference award of the Canadian Concussion Network and co-authoring a presentation recognized as the top basic sciences research entry at the Faculty of Medicine research day.
However, his most important commitment in life is his wife, Nazrin Muradova, with whom he has been happily married for 2 years.
