Laith AlHadeed

M.Sc. trainee in Friedman Lab

Laith AlHadeed is a M.Sc. trainee in Dr. Friedman's Epilepsy Laboratory. He initially became involved with the BRC through volunteering for science communication outreach.

Laith's research has two main focuses. The first is investigating the neuroendocrine hormonal response following brain injury. The second is applying a clinical neuroimaging tool that assesses the brain’s microvasculature integrity in patients with epilepsy. In addition, Laith is involved in research to unravel the puzzling origins of Havana Syndrome.

Laith recently graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences, becoming the first person to ever complete his undergraduate program in three years. He was also the recipient of numerous awards, among them the Dalhousie University Distinguished Sciences Scholar and Graduating Class Character Award.

Following his graduation, Laith gained experience in both industry and academia, furthering his abilities in leadership, critical thinking, and management. Commenting on his recent work, Laith states, “I am very lucky to be collaborating with such a talented and knowledgeable team of professionals”.

Outside the lab, Laith volunteers his time mentoring science students and is involved in the AMAP Journal Club. Laith is also launching a new student society aimed at reducing the stigma of epilepsy. In addition to his academic and community interests, Laith enjoys participating in sports, particularly boxing. Looking ahead, Laith aspires to become an educator and a healthcare professional.

Reflecting on his experiences with the Brain Repair Centre, Laith says, "The Brain Repair Centre is pioneering a new era of neuroscience research. It is a shining example of how modern science and technology can be used to promote healing."
